GUY FAWKES' INQUIZITION
Just to confirm that the annual MOMENTS FUN QUIZ will be held in the BALLROOM at the BAWA LEISURE CENTRE, FILTON on SATURDAY 1st NOVEMBER AT 7.30pm. Entitled GUY FAWKES' INQUIZITION, the quiz is scheduled to end at 10.30pm. Please watch the attached video to see more information about the event. You have my contact information, should you need to ask any questions.
This is a special quiz for THE INQUIZITORS. After almost 35 years of presenting quizzes for charities, businesses, clubs, pubs, hotels and more, we have decided to hang up our mics. During that time, since the 1990s, we have raised tens of thousands of pounds for various charities. It is fair to say that MOMENTS is closer to heart than any other charity. It is, of course in memory of our much loved friend, Carole Moorlen, who helped us on many quizzes down the years.
A number of you have already registered teams, thank you very much for that! If you have registered and received this email, just regard it as an extra plug! Otherwise, please register NOW, we don't require any payment until OCTOBER. We will provide bank details later.
We can accommodate around 45 teams of up to 6 people. The members of the three teams with the highest number of points, and the team scoring the lowest score, will all be awarded individual prizes. The champions will be awarded the CAROLE MOORLEN SALVER to retain for a year.
As usual your generous support for sponsorship will be greatly appreciated. We need to cover the cost of room hire, printing, trophies and more, totalling around £700. Any surplus sponsorship cash we receive will be added to the income for the event. Last year we almost reached an amazing £5,000. It would be wonderful to at least match that figure and give another boost to MOMENTS. Additionally it would be a great way to go out after more than 30 years!
We are seeking main sponsors £500, trophy sponsors (£300), sponsors for each round (£50 per round), spot prize sponsors (£30 x 2) and answer sheet sponsors (£150). I can provide more information if you get in touch.
Additionally we also have a Grand Raffle. Any prizes for that will also be greatly appreciated.
Running the event smoothly means we would love to have some help on the night. Again, please get in touch if you can help.
So, please watch the video, it contains full details about the quiz rounds, also please share the Facebook version, tell your friends about the quiz, and most importantly, register a team urgently, otherwise any offers to assist us in any way will happily be accepted.
A Quiz Nightmare Before Christmas
Our second Moments fun quiz - A QUIZ NIGHTMARE BEFORE CHRISTMAS, was a great success, with 40 teams attending the event at the Ballroom at the BAWA Club at Filton enjoyed a lively, competitive, but friendly evening. The proceeds of the quiz were £4,500 (plus £300 on the merchandise stall), a marvellous result! You can watch a short video of the winners (and losers!).
There are several 'Thank you's'. Firstly, thank you to my Inquizitors team: Mo, Tony, Chris, Katie and Jack and, of course, Rob the question-master extraordinaire! Then, I must mention our joint main sponsors - Butlers Commercial Cleaning Ltd and MB Frames PVCu Ltd and our other generous sponsors - Randalls Furniture & Interiors, Titan Motor Factors, Milburys Estate Agents and Tibbs & Simmons Farm Vets.
Also, my gratitude to everyone who attended the quiz, and helped to generate the exceptional proceeds, also in creating a really buzzing atmosphere at the event!
Stand by for 1st November 2025 - the date of our next fun quiz at the BAWA Health & Leisure Club.

National Confidential Inquiry into Suicide and Safety In Mental Health (NCISH)
From left to right:
India Garry (Clerical Assistant), Cathryn Rodway (Research Fellow and Programme Manager), Deb Burns (Moments secretary), Pauline Turnbull (Project Manager & Academic Lead), Nav Kapur (Director), Phil Stones (Clerical Assistant), Jimmy Burns (Admin Manager)
In December, Deb and James visited the University of Manchester to present a cheque to NCISH, we had a very warm welcome and it was lovely to meet all the team.
NCISH are the UK’s leading research programme into suicide prevention in clinical services, The National Confidential Inquiry into Suicide and Safety in Mental Health has the overall aim of improving safety for all mental health patients.
They provide crucial evidence to support service and training improvements and, ultimately, to contribute to a reduction in patient suicide rates and an overall decrease in the national suicide rate.
We look forward to continuing our relationship and hope that our contribution makes a difference.
Garden Party 1st June
A short video about MOMENTS Garden Party at Hallen Farm. The event raised over £3,000 - which was a superb effort and a fitting reward for a willing team of volunteers, led by an amazing one man production line - Steve Moorlen!
Many thanks to all the volunteers on the day, we could not have managed without you! And a special thanks to Mike Lewis for this wonderful video!
More Donations!
The Moments Committee were thrilled to meet with representatives from The Sanctuary, who are part of the Second-step charity. The Sanctuary in Bristol is a safe space where you can come for mental health support if you’re having trouble coping or you feel lonely or isolated. It’s a place where you can pause, take a breather, and find some balance when things feel overwhelming.
Later that evening we also met with a representative from the Samaritans. They are here every day and night of the year for anyone struggling to cope. They make sure people have somewhere to turn and support when they need it most. They work with communities to let people know they’re here for them and campaign to make suicide prevention a priority.
These photos were taken in Carole’s memorial garden. A total of £2000 was donated to support these charities.
The First Fundraiser For Moments
We are very grateful to Mike and Mo Lewis who organised this first event in memory of Carole. In the difficult months following Carole’s death, it was heartwarming for the family to see all the support that the local community had for them. This was a difficult event for the Moorlen family but they appreciated all the effort from Mike, Mo, Tony and Rob. Thanks to local businesses that supported the event including: MB Frames PVCu Ltd, D&D Shoe repairs and security centre, Cooling FX Ltd, Tibbs and Simmons Farm animal Veterinary Surgeons and Ashley Thouless Vehicle Repair. Also many thanks to all the people who attended the quiz and made the night the great success that it was. On the night, the total proceeds were £3580 but this number continued to rise over the next few days as more donations were received. See our events page for news of the next quiz!
More Donations!
This week, the Moments Committee were pleased to meet Lauren and Jamie from Suicide Prevention UK and Ryan from Winston’s Wish. We donated £500 to Suicide Prevention UK and £1000 to Winston’s Wish. We hope our donations help these groups to continue their great work!
Park Run Launch
Saturday 21st April saw the Park Run launch organized by Dr Cary of the Pioneer Medical Group. It was a lovely sunny day and well attended. Patients of the PMG were given a Moments T-shirt which were donated by the Moments committee. It is hoped this event will grow week on week as it has been shown that exercise can be beneficial both for physical and mental health.
Walk For Carole
Last weekend, Steve, Richard and Jane kicked off the Walk For Carole. They walked 16 miles and between them raised over £1000! Well done guys!
Donations for two special charities!
This week the Moments committee were delighted to invite representatives from Second Step, a charity based in Bristol which helps families cope with bereavement and other mental health issues, to receive a cheque for £1000. The Moments committee also travelled to Beachley to present Sara (Severn Area Rescue Association) a cheque for £1000. These charities are very special to us all and we would like to thank both charities for all their work. We hope our donation helps them to continue their support for those in need.
Website is live!
Thank you for visiting Moments. On here you will find information about upcoming events, groups we are supporting, and merchandise.
